Book: The Hurricane Wars
Author: Thea Guanzon
Series: The Hurricane Wars
Rating: 4/5

I don’t know where to start with this book. It was so captivating, and I am dying for more. It says right now on Thea Guanzon’s website that the next book is supposed to come out in October, but that feels so far away. I need the next book now- and preferably the one after that, too.
Talasyn was such a strong FMC and absolutely amazing. I loved reading how she reacted to different situations throughout the book, and she never failed to make me laugh at some of the stuff she was doing. Also her story line? I’m dead, it was so good, there were so many of my favorite tropes (I won’t list them because I don’t want to spoil anything, just know that they were amazing) but there was also actual substance to her. That is something I’ve noticed can be an issue in books, authors are simply trying to meet trope quotas and don’t provide the substance- you need to write a story, not a collection of tropes. And Thea Guanzon really delivered with this, giving me a story AND some bomb tropes.
Alaric was also very fun- and frustrating- to read. I’m really glad that we got some chapters from his point of view, otherwise I think I would have exploded with frustration for this man. I also appreciate that him and Talasyn weren’t always just automatically able to read each other facial expressions and body language, because that is something I struggle to suspend my disbelief for. You barely know a guy, how do you know that minute twitch on his face that nobody else noticed means he cares for you? This felt a lot more real, with some uncertainty about how they truly feel for each other.
I will warn- be prepared to let go of characters. No one is safe. Well, it seems like Alaric and Talasyn are safe but Veronica Roth taught me to be wary about even the FMC. There were some unexpected deaths/disappearances that I am still upset over- you’ll know who I’m talking about once you read this.
The world building, oh my god. I could die, it was so good. I felt like I was able to understand what was happening and what the politics were without there just being pages of info dumping. I know info dumping can be very important, especially for fantasy series, but when an author is able to do something more akin to info sprinkling? Chefs kiss.
Overall, just go buy this book. Do it. Buy it, check it out from your library, borrow it from a friend, but read this book. It is so deserving of the hype it’s getting.
